Lakshmi, also called Laxmi, is the goddess of wealth, fortune, power, luxury, beauty, fertility, and auspiciousness. She holds the promise of material fulfillment and contentment. She is described as restless, whimsical yet maternal, with her arms raised to bless and to grant her blessings.

Shri is the sacred name of Lakshmi. Shri is written atop most documents and spoken before addressing a god, teacher holy man or any revered individual. The word evokes grace, affluence abundance, auspiciousness and authority. When the word is spoken or written an aura of holiness is established. Whatever follows is imbued with divine blessing. Just as the word "Om" is associated with the mystical side of life, Shri is associated with the material side of existence.
Lakshmi represents the beautiful and bountiful aspect of nature. As Bhoodevi, the earth-goddess, she nurtures life; as Shreedevi, the goddess of fortune, she bestows power, pleasure and prosperity on those who deserve her grace. To realize her, one must respect the laws of life and appreciate the wonders of existence.

Laxmi is said to be swarna-hasta meaning golden-handed. As this name suggests the Goddess pours out riches to the community. Where there is Laxmi there is prosperity. Wealth here also includes moral and ethical values, the nobler aspects of life, the power of the mind and intellect. This kind of wealth has to be acquired by a seeker before his initiation into spiritual knowledge. That explains why Laxmi is worshipped before Saraswati during the devi-puja.

She is the possessor of great beauty and is depicted in standing as well as in the seated postures. She is however always seen on a lotus. In her hands she holds two lotuses. In the avatarams of Lord Vishnu, Lakshmi also took varous forms to accompany him - Sita with Rama, Rukmini with Krishna.

Ashta Lakshmi are her eight forms which are the commonly worshipped aspects. In each form, she bestows one form of wealth to her devotees. The Ashta Lakshmis are: Aadi Lakshmi, Santhana Lakshmi, Gaja Lakshmi, Dhana Lakshmi, Dhaanya Lakshmi, Vijaya Lakshmi, Veera Lakshmi, Aiswarya Lakshmi.

The Spiritual Significance of Diwali

How to Illuminate Your Inner Self

Deepavali or Diwali means "a row of lights". It falls on the last two days of the dark half of the Hindu month of Kartik (October-November).

Mythical Origins of Diwali

There are various alleged origins attributed to this festival. Some hold that they celebrate the marriage of Lakshmi with Lord Vishnu. In Bengal the festival is dedicated to the worship of Kali. It also commemorates that blessed day on which the triumphant Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana. On this day also Sri Krishna killed the demon Narakasura. In South India people take an oil bath in the morning and wear new clothes. They partake of sweetmeats. They light fireworks, which are regarded as the effigies of Narakasura who was killed on this day. They greet one another, asking, "Have you had your Ganges bath?" which actually refers to the oil bath that morning as it is regarded as purifying as a bath in the holy Ganga.

Give and Forgive

Everyone forgets and forgives the wrongs done by others. There is an air of freedom, festivity and friendliness everywhere. This festival brings about unity. It instills charity in the hearts of people. Everyone buys new clothes for the family. Employers, too, purchase new clothes for their employees.

Rise and Shine

Waking up during the 'Brahmamuhurta' (at 4a.m.) is a great blessing from the standpoint of health, ethical discipline, efficiency in work and spiritual advancement. It is on Deepavali that everyone wakes up early in the morning. The sages who instituted this custom must have cherished the hope that their descendents would realise its benefits and make it a regular habit in their lives.

Unite and Unify

In a happy mood of great rejoicing village folk move about freely, mixing with one another without any reserve, all enmity being forgotten. People embrace one another with love. Deepavali is a great unifying force. Those with keen inner spiritual ears will clearly hear the voice of the sages, "O Children of God unite, and love all". The vibrations produced by the greetings of love, which fill the atmosphere, are powerful enough to bring about a change of heart in every man and woman in the world. Alas! That heart has considerably hardened, and only a continuous celebration of Deepavali in our homes can rekindle in us the urgent need of turning away from the ruinous path of hatred.

Prosper and Progress

On this day, Hindu merchants in North India open their new account books and pray for success and prosperity during the coming year. The homes are cleaned and decorated by day and illuminated by night with earthen oil-lamps. The best and finest illuminations are to be seen in Bombay and Amritsar. The famous Golden Temple at Amritsar is lit in the evening with thousands of lamps placed all over the steps of the big tank. Vaishnavites celebrate the Govardhan Puja and feed the poor on a large scale.

Illuminate Your Inner Self

The light of lights, the self-luminous inner light of the Self is ever shining steadily in the chamber of your heart. Sit quietly. Close your eyes. Withdraw the senses. Fix the mind on this supreme light and enjoy the real Deepavali, by attaining illumination of the soul. He who Himself sees all but whom no one beholds, who illumines the intellect, the sun, the moon and the stars and the whole universe but whom they cannot illumine, He indeed is Brahman, He is the inner Self. Celebrate the real Deepavali by living in Brahman, and enjoy the eternal bliss of the soul.

The sun does not shine there, nor do the moon and the stars, nor do lightnings shine and much less fire. All the lights of the world cannot be compared even to a ray of the inner light of the Self. Merge yourself in this light of lights and enjoy the supreme Deepavali.

Many Deepavali festivals have come and gone. Yet the hearts of the vast majority are as dark as the night of the new moon. The house is lit with lamps, but the heart is full of the darkness of ignorance.

O man! Wake up from the slumber of ignorance. Realise the constant and eternal light of the Soul, which neither rises nor sets, through meditation and deep enquiry.

May you all attain full inner illumination! May the supreme light of lights enlighten your understanding! May you all attain the inexhaustible spiritual wealth of the Self! May you all prosper gloriously on the material as well as spiritual planes!

Lakshmi is the Goddess of exquisite beauty; susama blossoming in everything. Puranas describe Her as arising from milky ocean which is the symbol of vast stretch of the all-enveloping consciousness, the plane of immortality, the delight of existence swelling with honeyed waves of madhuman bliss in expression and creation, the refuge and support of all existence. All those who worship harmony and beauty in everything outside as well as inward activity and movement and feeling and Her servitors. She removes their poverty - physical as well as spiritual - and endows them Her plenitudes, Her rivhes and Her opulence. Thought there are many forms of her worship, propitiating Goddess Lakshmi through her thousand names is a sure means to secure Her divine grace. The vibrations evoked by the sacred names is a sure means to secure victory and happiness to those who chant and hear them with devotion. Here is a very rare sahasranama mantra of Goddess Lakshmi brought to light by God Sri Mahavishnu Himself. हम जप तप नही जाने,कछु और नही माने,
इति सी बात पहचाने हम,
अन्धे की लकड़ी सा राधा नाम हमारा है..!!

The Radha-Krishna amour is a love legend of all times. It's indeed hard to miss the many legends and paintings illustrating the Radha-Krishna affair is the most memorable. Krishna's relationship with Radha, his favorite among the 'gopis' (cow-herding maidens), has served as a model for male and female love in a variety of art forms, and since the sixteenth century appears prominently as a motif in North Indian paintings. The allegorical love of Radha has found expression in some great Bengali poetical works of Govinda Das, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, and Jayadeva the author of Geet Govinda.

Krishna's youthful dalliances with the 'gopis' are interpreted as symbolic of the loving interplay between God and the human soul. Radha's utterly rapturous love for Krishna and their relationship is often interpreted as the quest for union with the divine. This kind of love is of the highest form of devotion in Vaishnavism, and is symbolically represented as the bond between the wife and husband or beloved and lover.

Radha, daughter of Vrishabhanu, was Krishna's lover during that period of his life when he lived among the cowherds of Vrindavan. Since childhood they were close to each other - they played, they danced, they fought, they grew up together and wanted to be together forever, but the world pulled them apart. He departed to safeguard the virtues of truth, and she waited for him. He vanquished his enemies, became the king, and came to be worshipped as a lord of the universe. She waited for him. He married Rukmini and Satyabhama, raised a family, fought the great war of Ayodhya, and she still waited. So great was Radha's love for Krishna that even today her name is uttered whenever Krishna is refered to, and Krishna worship is though to be incomplete without the deification of Radha.

One day the two most talked about lovers come together for a final single meeting. Suradasa in his Radha-Krishna lyrics relates the various amorous delights of the union of Radha and Krishna in this ceremonious 'Gandharva' form of their wedding in front of five hundred and sixty million people of Vraj and all the gods and goddesses of heaven. The sage Vyasa refers to this as the 'Rasa'. Age after age, this evergreen love theme has engrossed poets, painters, musicians and all Krishna devotees alike.

Saanson ki mala pe simrun main pi ka naam

Saanson ki mala pe simrun main pi ka naam
apne mann ki main janoo aur pi ke mann ki ram

Yahi meri bandagi hai, yahi meri puja
Ek tha sajan mandir mein aur ek tha pritam masjid mein

par main prem ke rang men aisi doobi ban gaya ek hi roop
Prem ki mala japte japte aap bani main shyam

Hum aur nahin kuch kaam ke
matvaare pi ke naam ke, har dam

Priitam ka kuch dosh nahin hai vo to hai nirdosh
apne aap se baaten kar ke ho gayi main badnaam

Itna To Karna Swami lyrics

Itna to karna swami
Jab praan tan se nikle
Govinda naam leke
Tab pran tan se nikle
Shri gangaji ka tat ho
Jamuna ka vanshivat ho
Mera sawla nikat ho
Jab pran tan se nikle

Pitambari kasi ho
Chhabi man main yeh basi ho
Hotho pe kuch hasi ho
Jab pran tan se nikle

Jab kanth pran aye
Koi rog na sataye (2)
Yam darash na dikhaye
Jab pran tan se nikle

Us vakt jaldi ana
nahi shyam bhul jana(2)
Radhe ko saath lana
Jab pran tan se nikle

Ek bhakt ki hai arji
Khud garj ki hai garji
Aage tumhari marji
Jab pran tan se nikle
Itna to karna sai
Jab pran tan se nikle

Ae Ri Main Toh Prem Deewani, Mero Dard Na Jaane Koi

Ae Ri Main Toh Prem Deewani, Mero Dard Na Jaane Koi
Ae Ri Main Toh Prem Deewani, Mero Dard Na Jaane Koi

Sooli Upar Sej Hamaari, Sono Kis Bidh Hoye
Gagan Mandal Par Sej Piya Ki, Milano Kis Bidh Hoye

Ghayal Ki Ghat, Ghayal Jaane, Aur Na Jaane Koi
Meera Ke Parbhu Peer Mite Jab, Baid Sanwariya Hoye

Ae Ri Main Toh Prem Deewani, Mero Dard Na Jaane Koi
Ae Ri Main Toh Prem Deewani, Mero Dard Na Jaane Koi!
